What will life look like 100 years from now? Picture it…The year will be 2117. What will work look like? Unfortunately, if changes aren’t made between now and then, the workplace won’t be much different than it is today.
[spacer height=”20px”]The road to gender equality in Corporate America is filled with some pretty significant potholes…and unless MAJOR advancements are made, there’s not much change on the horizon.
A report released in 2015 by the LeanIn Corporation and McKinsey & Co. stated that if we maintain the pace we’ve been on for the last 3 years then it will take 25 years to reach gender equality at the senior VP level…and just guess how long it will take for women to gain equality in the C-suite…more than 100 years! Meaning, not even our daughters or granddaughters will experience gender equality at top executive levels. Well, that’s just not good enough for me.
What can we do today to change that prediction? Actually, there’s quite a bit that we all can do—both women and men.
Women are the vast majority of entry-level positions in the workforce and are about 50% of the middle management roles. But they get stuck in those positions… They can’t advance.
When we find ways to help women in the middle advance to higher level roles, specifically through child-raising years, we can reshape the pipeline and go much farther toward bring more women to top-level talent.
In 100 years, you and I will be long gone but our legacy lives on. Let’s work together today to change the future/outlook for the females of tomorrow—and beyond.
